This past week the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with their children, were in BC for a visit. I am not normally a Royal fan but since there were in town I figured I would get in on the action. They were sailing past our house, and it didn’t take much effort to walk to the end of the block. My seven-year-old son wanted to see what a Duke and Duchess looked like so he joined me. While we were waiting for their tall ship to appear he played at the beach.
Hey, Are You Guys Sisters?
This past summer I was able to spend some time with my youngest sister. She lives in Ontario and I live in BC, if you are not a geography buff that is about 4,300 km apart. Not exactly close enough to pop by for tea and thus we only see each other once a year. Over the past few years when we have had our yearly visits we haven’t been out much. With 4 young kids between us we weren’t exactly hitting the town. While we were visiting this summer we were able to escape the kids for a few hours.
Alaska
I found some pictures the other day when I was doing a little cleaning. Put on your wooly socks because these might make you chilly.
I don’t know about you but when I go on vacation I always bring my camera. I take a million photos (or at least it feels that way) and when I get home life takes over. All of the photos that I took are saved and maybe never looked at again. I took this group of photos on my first trip to Alaska in 2008. I probably looked at them shortly after I took them, burned them to a disk and filed the disk away. It was a very happy surprise when I found them recently.
Knitting Season
Today is the first day of fall and the first day of knitting season. I don’t know about you but I take a hiatus from yarn based projects during the warm weather. But now that its getting chilly outside I am motivated to make things that keep me warm. I was digging in the craft closet and came out with a whole box of sock yarn, which should keep me busy for a long time.
So Long Summer
My Making A Life blog was getting a little overloaded with photography posts so I have created another website specific to photography here it is…
Today celebrates the last day of summer. I can’t think of a better way to close off an excellent season than sunsets. As the sunsets on summer 2016 tonight, I am going to keep the excellent memories of summer warmth alive until next year. So long summer, welcome fall.
Victoria Fly By
I have been out and about taking more photos. I also have a photography website if you are interested in photography check it out. http://www.sarahpattersonphoto.com
I had the opportunity recently to do a fly by over Victoria, BC. It was a beautiful day even with the wind. I literally bounced around in my seat and more than once collided with the window while snapping at the landscape below. Even with the turbulence I managed to capture a few shots which I am pretty proud of. Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
Fourth Birthday
I really don’t know where the time went. One day he was a baby and the next he is 4. When I was in the midst of diapers, nap-time, breastfeeding, and spoon feeding I though that the baby days would never end. Days dragged on and I waited not so patiently for my husband to get home so that I could get a few moments to myself. Now with a preschooler and a child in grade 2 life revolves around school drop off and pick-ups. We will however, continue to celebrate each passing year as it marks the growth that we have all achieved and of course take loads of photographs.
Kayaking with kids
We are so fortunate to live surrounded by so much natural beauty. Thetis Lake is one such place just outside of Victoria. We made it to Thetis twice this summer, once for a hike and the second time for a paddle. The trails around upper and lower lakes are classified as moderate, and I was so proud of our youngest hiker who walked the entire trail without complaint.
Date Night Apple Pie 2
A wonderful friend dropped off a big bag of apples and pears on my doorstep recently. An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but fruit flies not so much. It was a race against the fruit flies to do something with all the fruit. We are all fans of apple pie so we had a pie making marathon.
Pickle Pub Crawl – Victoria
Last weekend, I got pickled. I spent Sunday with a group of moms on the Victoria Harbour Ferry Pickle Pub Crawl. Unfortunately, we picked the only rainy day in Victoria all summer, but we weren’t going to let a little rain stop us!

I found some pictures the other day when I was doing a little cleaning. Put on your wooly socks because these might make you chilly.
