When I turned 16 many many moons ago I did not ask for a party instead I asked to go to the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). My dad took the day off work (which never happened) and my mom arranged for my three siblings to be escorted to and from school. My boyfriend at the time came along and the four of us headed to Toronto for the day.
This was my first trip to an art gallery, or at least the first one that I remember. Years later, I became a student at the Ontario College of Art and Design. OCAD is in the backyard of the AGO, and my student card served as entrance to the AGO thus I was in frequent attendance.
While I was in Florida this year I saw a Facebook “10 things to do in Florida” post, and this is how I discovered the Dali Museum. My mom was gracious enough to chaperon my son and me to the gallery.
The Dali museum is worth the visit if you happen to be in the St. Petersburg area. We got the guided tour headsets, which enticed me to learn something about Dali and his life. What did I learn, well there is more to Dali then just melting clocks.
My son completed the visual scavenger hunt and listened to some of the audio tour. It was toss-up on his favourite part, it was either looking in the mirror, running through the garden maze or getting a prize after finishing the scavenger hunt. Will he remember his first trip to an art gallery the same way I do, only time will tell?
