August Reading List

Read Making A LifeI am a little late to the party this month, as I was on vacation for the first week of August. I had four books listed on my July reading list but I only made it through two of the four. As I read a fair amount I rarely buy books instead I rely on my local library which can be hit or miss. Sometimes I can get a book right away and other times I wait months to get my hands on a best seller. I picked up a third book not on my reading list based on a readers suggestion and I was not disappointed.

July’s Reading List included:

when the saints

4_stars.svgWhen the Saints by Sarah Mian – I added this book to my list based on a conversation with my mom about the author. My mom is friends with a relative of Sarah Mian’s and mentioned that she read When the Saints and enjoyed it. I enjoyed it as well. It was an easy read. It gave me a better appreciation for my situation.

Where'd you go Bernadette2000px-5_stars.svg  Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple  was my favourite book this month. I even gave it 5 stars on Goodreads. My rating system goes something like this 1 if I couldn’t finish it, 2 if it was missing something, is 3 stars if I enjoyed the book, 4 if it moved me and 5 if it blew me away. This one blew me away so I am recommending to everyone. I could really connect with Bernadette. I am not sure if it was life similarities that drew me into her character or how interesting the story was. If you have read it I would be interested in hearing what you have to say.

The Piano Maker4_stars.svgThe Piano Maker by Kurt Palka was a surprise addition to this months list. It was suggested to me last month when I asked for recommendations, and because I couldn’t get Goldfinch by Donna Tartt or The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah from the library I opted to read The Piano Maker. Again I quite enjoyed this one. It was written my a man but you would never guess it by the way that he writes the female voice.

August’s Reading List includes:

  1. Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
  2. The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah
  3. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
  4. Inside the O’Briens by Lisa Genova

Let me know what you are reading in the comments below. If you have reading suggestions based on the above books, please let me know. I am always on the hunt for interesting reading material.
