About Me

ME

Hello, Welcome to Making A Life.

I am Sarah.

I am a maker and I love to create. I find it a necessary part of life.  Making objects whatever they maybe is not stressful, it’s a stress reliever. I’m not a new maker of objects, it’s in my blood.  I was raised with an appreciation for the hand-made and for art.   My mother is a maker, and her mother as well, so I come by it naturally.  Crafting and art appreciation was a way of life in my house as a child.

I have always for as long as I can remember wanted to be an interior designer, I dream of home interiors.  So as a teen I studied art got accepted to the Ontario College of Art and Design school finished the general first year studies and got accepted into the interior design program. I later focused my education towards furniture design and completed the furniture program at Sheridan College School of Crafts and Design. For years I designed for a commercial furniture company. People ask me if they might have seen my work and if you have ever watched “Grey’s Anatomy” then you may have seen one of my healthcare designs.

Along with furniture design I have also studied jewellery design, textiles, ceramics, flameworking and I am also a graduate of a commercial photography program at Sheridan College.

About 9 years ago I took a leap of faith and moved clear across the country. My boyfriend at the time (now husband) got a job and was moving from Toronto to Victoria and I wasn’t far behind him. We have been married for 6 years and have two beautiful boys.

In 2012 in the same week as my second child was born I completed a Bachelor of Design (it was a very busy week). In September of 2013 I went back to school to pursue a MBA and while my head is in the business world, my heart is dedicated to being a mother, wife, maker and crafter.   I am happiest when I am making something, anything, it doesn’t matter what it is.

In March of 2015 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which has had a fairly substantial impact on my outlook on life.  In August after a five hour craniotomy “Timmy the tumour” was removed. I am still crafting, making, and baking but now there are posts about my brain too.  It’s all part of my journey to Make A Life.
