Tourist in my Hometown – Welland

Welland Main Street Bridge, Bridge 13 Making A Life 3

It has been years since I lived in my hometown of Welland, Ontario. In truth, the second I had the chance I moved away. I packed my bags and headed to school in Toronto. I have since settled in Victoria, BC but I still make a yearly trip to Welland to visit with family. Victoria’s main industry is tourism, as hundreds of cruise ships dock over the summer months and bring thousands of tourists to experience all that Victoria has to offer. I play tourist in Victoria all of the time, as there are so many excellent things to see and do.

When I return to Welland now I see the city from a tourist’s perspective. Do you know what I see? Opportunity, lots of opportunity. I took a paddle board yoga class on the Welland canal and it was awesome, even though I fell in! In the 18 years that I lived in Welland I never once swam in the canal, but now as a visitor I have. I also saw people out enjoying the fantastic water way that runs right through the middle of Welland. The Welland Canal presents many opportunities which I see Welland slowly taking advantage of.

Sometimes when you live somewhere you don’t get out and experience what the city has to offer. You also may not realize the beauty of the city in which you live. I encourage everyone where ever you live to step out with the eyes of a tourist. Look at where you live and see the beauty.

These are pictures that I took the night I went to Taris on the Water for dinner. The Main Street Bridge over the Welland Canal looks fantastic lit up at night.
